The material used by Paul Bourgeois (1941), consists of sheets of compressed wallpaper, cardboard, lead, linen or posters that have been separated from their original environment. Paint and canvas may have disappeared for the painter, but by applying perforations through the surface of the material a new visual language is created.

They metamorphose into two-dimensional and sculptural forms, in which shifts, subtleties and transitions generate minimal movement. The poetic perforations made with a nail through the surfaces, appear to weave a tangible tale.

 

Het materiaal van Paul Bourgeois (1941) bestaat uit vellen samengekoekte stukken behangpapier, karton, lood, linnen of affiches die losgeweekt zijn van hun drager. Verf en doek zijn voor de schilder misschien verdwenen, maar door het aanbrengen van perforaties dwars doorheen de huid van de vellen vormt zich een nieuwe vormelijke taal. 

Het worden tweedimensionale en sculpturale volumes waarbij verschuivingen, nuanceringen, verglijdingen minimaal beweging genereren. De poëtische perforaties met een spijker doorheen de oppervlaktes gemaakt, lijken een tastbaar verhaal.
