The oeu­vre of Leen Van Tichelen (°1981, lives and works in Ghent) trans­lates her con­fronta­tion and feel­ing of real­i­ty in a mul­ti­tude of mate­ri­als: paper, wood, con­crete, plas­ter, textile. In her draw­ings, col­lages, instal­la­tions and work in situ, she has devel­oped a poet­ic visu­al lan­guage in which both fragili­ty and weight pre­dom­i­nate and often car­ry out an inher­ent dia­logue. In the expres­sive oil paint­ings, the strug­gle with being ​‘an sich’ predominates.

The cre­ation of the work, being present and that which is not yet encom­passed in form and mat­ter. Deliberate move­ments that are exe­cut­ed with­in a frame that she deter­mines her­self, a repet­i­tive game that is played of adding, remov­ing, stack­ing and con­nect­ing. Multiple com­po­si­tions that are brought togeth­er in the name of a series. Her work can­not be cap­tured in a sin­gle glance, but is enclosed in a calm­ing of the bat­tle that she is fight­ing herself.

 

Het oeu­vre van Leen Van Tichelen (°1981, woont en werkt in Gent) ver­taalt haar con­fron­ta­tie en voe­len van de wer­ke­lijk­heid in een veel­heid aan mate­ri­a­len; papier, hout, beton, plaas­ter, textiel. In haar teke­nin­gen, col­la­ges, instal­la­ties en werk in situ heeft ze een poë­ti­sche beeld­taal ont­wik­kelt, waar­bij zowel fra­gi­li­teit als gewicht de boven­toon voe­ren en vaak inhe­rent een dia­loog uit­voe­ren. In de expres­sie­ve schil­de­rij­en met olie­verf voert de strijd met het zijn ​‘an sich’ de boventoon.

Het ont­staan van het werk, het aan­we­zig zijn en dat wat nog niet is, omvat­ten in vorm en mate­rie. Doelbewuste bewe­gin­gen die uit­ge­voerd wor­den bin­nen een fra­me dat ze zelf bepaalt, een repe­ti­tief spel dat gespeeld wordt van toe­voe­gen, weg­ha­len, sta­pe­len en ver­bin­den. Meerdere com­po­si­ties die samen­ge­bracht wor­den in de naam­ge­ving van een serie. Haar werk is niet te vat­ten in één blik, maar is beslo­ten in een tot rust komen van de veld­slag die ze zelf levert.
