Juchtmans’ schilderijen kunnen – in de meest strikte zin van het woord – niet als monochromen beschouwd worden, gezien de waarneembare aanwezigheid van vele kleuren in zijn werk. Maar men kan niet ontkennen dat er een engagement is met de monochromen, in het bijzonder met de manier waarop de minimale kunstenaars van de jaren ’60 er mee omgingen. Maar Juchtmans’ werk overstijgt het project dat het eerst werd opgezet door deze kunstenaars door tijd te erkennen als een betekenisvolle factor en door het als een essentieel element in zijn werk op te nemen. Hierdoor plaatst zijn werk de rol van tijd in onze esthetische ervaring van kunst, op de voorgrond. Hij herstelt de positie van de esthetiek niet alleen, hij vindt ze opnieuw uit en actualiseert ze in zijn werkproces. Juchtmans’ werk kan in dit opzicht dus gezien worden als “het schilderen van tijd”.
Jus Juchtmans’s paintings would not be consIDered monochromes in the most narrow sense of the word, given the perceptible presence of multiple colours in his paintings. But there is no denying the engagement of his work has with the monochrome, especially with the way in which the Minimalist artists of the 1960s had been involved in it. Juchtmans paintings promote the project first set out by these artists, by acknowledging temporality as a significant factor and incorporating it as an essential element within his work. By doing so, his work makes the role of time prominent in our aesthetic experience of art. It not only restores the aesthetic to its position, but reinvents and updates it in the process. Juchtmans’s paintings can, therefore, in this manner be seen as ‘paintings of time’.
Du fait de cette présence si manifeste de la couleur, les oeuvres de Jus Juchtmans ne peuvent être considérées comme des monochromes au sens strict. D’autre part, on ne peut nier le lien que son oeuvre entretient avec la monochromie, spécialement avec la manière dont les artistes minimalistes des années 60 s’y sont engagés. L’oeuvre de Juchtmans progresse dans le projet mis en oeuvre par ces artistes en reconnaissant la temporalité comme facteur significatif et en l’incorporant comme une part essentielle de son oeuvre. Son oeuvre fait ainsi une part importante au rôle du temps dans l’expérience esthétique de ses spectateurs.Elle réinvente une fois de plus l’esthétique et mieux : elle la modernise. Les peintures de Juchtmans peuvent donc, en ce sens, être considérées comme “peintures du temps”.
