Kunstenaar Willy De Sauter werkt al sinds de jaren 1960 aan een oeuvre met een fundamentele vormentaal. Terwijl zijn eerste werken voornamelijk opgebouwd waren door het systematisch herhalen van lijnpatronen, is hij zich steeds verder gaan toeleggen op éénkleurige krijtschilderijen. De eenvoud en schraalheid ervan zijn het resultaat van zijn reductieproces om tot essenties te komen. 

 

Artist Willy De Sauter has been working on an oeuvre with a fundamental language of form since the 1960s. While his first works were mainly built up by systematically repeating patterns of lines, he gradually concentrated his focus on single-coloured chalk paintings. Their simplicity and scarcity of definition are the result of his process of reduction in order to arrive at the essentials.
